David Alegret was born in Barcelona in 1972. He began his studies of music at the Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona with Xavier Torra, as he simultaneously studied medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He completed his music studies at the Musik-Akademie in Basel with Kurt Widmer, where he received his diploma “Solistindiplom” with highest qualifications. Currently he is working on perfecting his vocal technique under the tutelage of Ana Luisa Chova.
In 2003 he was the winner of the first Concurs per a Joves Cantants Lírics (Contest for Young Lyric Singers) organized by the “La Caixa” Savings Bank and the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona; he was a finalist in the 2003 edition of the “Operalia” competition organized by Plácido Domingo; and he won the “Karajan Stipendium” annual prize awarded to a young singer by the Staatsoper in Vienna, consisting of a one-season contract which, in this case was, 2003-2004.
He has sung with the Orquestra Nacional de Cambra d’Andorra; Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès; Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla; Orquestra Ciudad de Granada; Orquesta Sinfónica de La Coruña; Concerto Köln orchestra; Capriccio Basel Baroque Orchestra; Le Concert des Nations; Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu; Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya; Basler Sinphonieorchester; Wiener Symphonieorchester; Wiener Philharmoniker; the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also the Orquestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, founded and directed by Riccardo Muti.



He has worked under the direction of Jordi Casas, Josep Vila, David Jiménez, Jordi Savall, Jesús López Cobos, Alois Koch, Renato Palumbo, Fabio Luisi, Alberto Zedda, Lawrence Foster, Christoph Speering, Paolo Olmi and Riccardo Muti, among other conductors.
He has performed in such prestigious European auditoriums as the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona; Palau de la Música in Valencia; l’Auditori in Barcelona; Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville; Wiener Konzerthaus; Wiener Staatsoper; Wiener Volksoper; Hamburger Staatsoper; Stadtcasino in Basel; Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern; and Queen Elisabeth Hall in London.
He made his debut in opera in 2004 as Lindoro in Rossini’s Italiana in Algeri in the Stadttheater in Klagenfurt (Austria). He performed the same role at the Ópera de Massy (France) and, together with Agnes Baltsa, at the Wiener Staatsoper. He has also sung the role of Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cerentola in the Wiener Volksoper, the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, the Trieste Opera House and the Rome Opera House. He has performed Conte di Libenskof in Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival of Pesaro, the Stadttheater in Bern and the Opera de Oviedo. He was also Don Narciso in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Hamburg Staatsoper. He was Belmonte in Mozart’s El rapto del Serrallo at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and in Palma de Mallorca. He performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona as Pong in Puccini’s Turandot. He made his debut as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale under the direction of Riccardo Muti at the Ravenna Festival. He also took part in the Mozart Festival in La Coruña as Aristeo in Antonio Sarorio’s Orfeo. Other festivals in which he has participated include the Tojours Mozart in Salzburg, Prague y Vienna as Ferrando in Cosí fan tutte, as Idamante in Idomeneo and as Christgeist in Die Schuldigkeit des Resten Gebotes.



He has performed in numerous oratorios including Mozart’s Requiem; Handel’s Messiah; Bach’s Passion According to St. John, Passion According to St. Matthew and Magnificat; Rossini´s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater; Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons; Puccini’s Messa di Gloria; and Honnegger’s Le Roi David.
He has performed Monteverdi’s Orfeo and Vespro della Beata Vergine, as well as Bach’s Mass in B Minor with the La Capella Reial de Catalunya under conductor Jordi Savall.
He has recorded, together with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Eduard Toldrà’s opera El Giravolt de Maig, in which he performs the leading role of Golferich, conducted by Antoni Ros Marbà.
Among his future performances are: his debut as Conte di Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Zurich Opera; Don Narciso in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Munich Staatsoper; Lindoro in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri at the Turin Opera and the Minneapolis Opera; and Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at the Toulouse Opera.
